The Content
Starting out as a TV sports researcher with Irish national broadcaster
RTE, Eoin cut his teeth on the production of English Premier League and UEFA Champions League games, before graduating to reporting and producing across radio and television. During his time with RTE, he covered key global sports events like the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the 2006 Ryder Cup and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
After moving to Vancouver, he provided extensive coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games for both RTE and the BBC while also moonlighting as a digital producer for The Vancouver Sun’s Olympic desk. Armed with a phone, laptop and not much else, it was gonzo style as Eoin navigated both the repeated media bus return trips to and from Whistler as well as the 8-hour time difference to dial into various TV and radio programming in Ireland and the UK from a tiny one-bedroom downtown apartment. Still, the commitment and passion worked a treat and he landed a coveted anchor role with Fox Sports in the summer of 2010.
Available to tens of millions every night across the US, Canada and the Caribbean, 'Fox Soccer Report was the network’s long-time flagship TV show and Eoin’s work there as an on-screen anchor was lauded in both the New York Times and The Globe and Mail.
After returning to Ireland, Eoin made his BBC television debut in early 2014 on the iconic Football Focus series while also working as a reporter and PxP announcer on Setanta Sports’ coverage of the English Premier League. His written features began to appear in The Irish Examiner, The42 and The Independent while he began as a Yahoo Sports Canada columnist during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The following year, Yahoo brought him back to Canada to provide daily reportage and analysis of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, with Eoin bouncing between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal for the majority of the tournament.
By the end of 2016, Eoin had moved to Toronto and released his first documentary, Celtic Soul. The following years saw him begin contributing feature stories to The Guardian, The Athletic and critically-acclaimed soccer magazine Eight by Eight while continuing his commitment to The Irish Examiner and The42, featuring heavily in three editions of the outlet’s immensely successful compilation publication Behind The Lines.
Watching with interest as the Canadian Premier League launched in 2018, Eoin was hired by York United FC in the summer of 2020. Enticed by the prospect of overseeing a complete identity overhaul at the end of the year, he carefully managed various creative elements as the organization delivered an acclaimed rebrand. Since 2021, he has taken on the role of Vice President, Content and Communication Strategy and shaped the entire framework for how the club presents itself. Simultaneously, he has sought out specific soccer stories across the GTA, investing heavily in meaningful and impactful collaborations that align with the club’s values and highlight the powerful work being done by a litany of special people: non-profits, coaches, volunteer staff. Highlights include an all-encompassing 2023 Pride campaign in association with Volkswagen Canada and a powerful celebration of New Canadians in partnership with CIBC.
